I was born in Mooresville, North Carolina, on 18 November, 1964 at 12:42 AM. I grew up in Huntersville, North Carolina, and attended Cornelius Elementary School, J.M. Alexander Junior High School, and North Mecklenburg High School. After graduation from high school, I took a brief sabbatical, after which I entered Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, to pursue a degree in Physics/Astronomy. I liked it so much there, I stayed on for my Master's degree in Applied Physics/Astronomical Instrumentation. From 1990-1999 I was the instrumentation engineer for the Keck Northeast Astronomy Consortium, and from 1993-1999 I was the Laboratory Instructor for the Whitin Observatory at Wellesley College.
During the Summer of 1999, I accepted the position of Observatory Assistant/Engineer for my alma mater, Appalachian State University. I work in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, maintaining, upgrading, and developing new instrumentation for ASU's Dark Sky (DSO) and Rankin Science (RSO) Observatories.
I currently live in Todd, NC, where my front porch has a lovely view across the Appalachian mountains toward the piedmont.
